Empowering Children to Create AI-Enabled Augmented Reality Experiences
Zhang, Lei, Zhou, Shuyao, Liaqat, Amna, Mak, Tinney, Berengard, Brian, Qian, Emily, Monroy-Hernández, Andrés
Despite their potential to enhance children's learning experiences, AI-enabled AR technologies are predominantly used in ways that position children as consumers rather than creators. We introduce Capybara, an AR-based and AI-powered visual programming environment that empowers children to create, customize, and program 3D characters overlaid onto the physical world. Capybara enables children to create virtual characters and accessories using text-to-3D generative AI models, and to animate these characters through auto-rigging and body tracking. In addition, our system employs vision-based AI models to recognize physical objects, allowing children to program interactive behaviors between virtual characters and their physical surroundings. We demonstrate the expressiveness of Capybara through a set of novel AR experiences. We conducted user studies with 20 children in the United States and Argentina. Our findings suggest that Capybara can empower children to harness AI in authoring personalized and engaging AR experiences that seamlessly bridge the virtual and physical worlds.

Everyday AR through AI-in-the-Loop
Suzuki, Ryo, Gonzalez-Franco, Mar, Sra, Misha, Lindlbauer, David
This workshop brings together experts and practitioners from augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) to shape the future of AI-in-the-loop everyday AR experiences. With recent advancements in both AR hardware and AI capabilities, we envision that everyday AR -- always-available and seamlessly integrated into users' daily environments -- is becoming increasingly feasible. This workshop will explore how AI can drive such everyday AR experiences. We discuss a range of topics, including adaptive and context-aware AR, generative AR content creation, always-on AI assistants, AI-driven accessible design, and real-world-oriented AI agents. Our goal is to identify the opportunities and challenges in AI-enabled AR, focusing on creating novel AR experiences that seamlessly blend the digital and physical worlds. Through the workshop, we aim to foster collaboration, inspire future research, and build a community to advance the research field of AI-enhanced AR.

Enhanced Mobile Experience with AR & AI
In recent years, we have seen a rise in the use of augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies are changing the way we interact with the world around us. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the mobile experience. AR and AI are used to create more immersive and personal experiences for mobile users. In this blog post, we will explore how these technologies are being used to enhance the mobile experience.
The most important events in technology 2022 - Ericsson
If I could give a Noble Prize to a year, it would be 2022! With deep impact on society, this year marked a turning point in the development of 5G, extended reality (XR), computer generated imagery (CGI), artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computers (QC) and robotics. This year, we have published eight thought-leadership blogs on topics related to its role in our telco industry; the importance of 5G; key metaverse use cases in society, enterprise and education; the role of Web3.0 and related blockchain challenges & opportunities; as well as very personal metaverse experiences. So, what happened with 5G over the past 12 months? We introduced radios that are substantially more energy efficient and we augmented the in-network intelligence by a huge margin.

Resonai, which uses AI and AR to create digital twins of buildings, raises $20M in funding - SiliconANGLE
Digital twin startup Resonai Inc. announced today that it has closed on a $20 million extension to its Series A round of funding, bringing the total amount raised to $30 million. New investors, including Meitav-Dash, Blue Square Israel and Irani Ventures, all participated in the round, as did existing backers SBI, Vive Nevo and Redds Capital. Resonai is the creator of the Vera platform, which uses artificial intelligence and augmented reality technology to convert physical spaces into intelligent digital environments that enable more immersive, real-world experiences. Using the Vera platform, a theater space, retail setting, a spacious apartment or any other kind of building can be scanned and sent to Vera's AR cloud to create a highly accurate 3D digital twin. This virtual space then becomes available via the cloud and is connected to Vera operated apps and mobile devices.

AI Glasses You Can Try On And Try Out With AR
In 2020, sports and lifestyle company Bollé launched the Volt, their first lens developed with artificial intelligence (AI). Researchers at EPIC, Bollé's state-of-the-art design and technology innovation lab in Lyon, France, evaluated 20 million lens formula combinations with AI. The algorithm assessed all the combinations, and the team eventually chose one high-contrast formula that provides the best possible color enhancement and depth perception for their active lifestyle customers. Sports and lifestyle glasses maker Bollé used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create new ... [ ] state-of-the-art lenses, then launched a transformative marketing campaign that allows customers to not only try their glasses on virtually, but also to take them for an Augmented Reality (AR) test drive! The Volt is being touted as one of the most technologically advanced lens in the marketplace, and it is being included throughout Bollé's extensive line of sport and lifestyle sunglasses.
The Four Converging Technologies Giving Rise to the Spatial Web
How each of us sees the world is about to change dramatically. For all of human history, the experience of looking at the world was roughly the same for everyone. But boundaries between the digital and physical are beginning to fade. The world around us is gaining layer upon layer of digitized, virtually overlaid information--making it rich, meaningful, and interactive. As a result, our respective experiences of the same environment are becoming vastly different, personalized to our goals, dreams, and desires.

The New iOS 12: How it will Impact iPhone App Development
The new iOS 12 released on September 2018, and a host of new features have left the iOS developers both excited and anxious. Excited because of the possibilities: the new devices are now 40% faster at launching apps, 50% faster at displaying the keyboard, and 70% faster at launching the camera app, has the ability to set app limits, and come with visual "do not disturb" and a new USDZ file type. Anxious because, of course, all these new features are going to set new users preferences, which will ultimately affect business requirements, which will further impact the iPhone App Development process. The release of Apple's new operating system, iOS 12 is also crucial in the wake of Google's Android Pie update and Google Pixel 3 launch, so the developers have a lot more learn and adjust to new technologies. Moving ahead, Apple has also launched a round of hardware, including A12 bionic, a 64-bit ARM-based system on a chip, which claims to be 15% faster and 40% more energy-efficient than A11.
